Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr.

A Locked Bathroom, a Suitcase, and a Missing Mother

Mississippi Man Accused of Dismembering Parent

What began as a routine welfare check in Natchez, Mississippi, quickly turned into one of the most disturbing cases local investigators say they have ever encountered. Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the home of Lana Brown Bradley, a retired educator beloved in her community, only to find signs that something was terribly wrong.

A House That Smelled of Chemicals

According to Sheriff Travis Patten, the moment deputies stepped inside, they noticed the strong odor of cleaning agents and a floor slick with chemicals — clear indications that someone had attempted to sanitize the scene. The atmosphere was tense, silent, and unsettling. Bradley’s youngest son, Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr., was found locked inside a downstairs bathroom. When the door was opened, deputies observed a dark, unidentified substance in the toilet — something that immediately raised red flags.

Patten later described the case as “the most heinous” he had seen in his career, the kind that “follows you home.”

A Grisly Discovery on the Family Property

As deputies expanded their search to the wooded two‑acre property surrounding the home, a relative made a horrifying discovery. A scream cut through the trees: “It’s a head!”

From that moment, the investigation shifted from a welfare check to a homicide scene.

Authorities later found additional remains inside a suitcase. Other fragments were recovered from the bathroom plumbing after a professional was called to remove the toilet.

Investigators allege that Jackson dismembered his mother in an attempt to hinder the search and delay the discovery of her fate.

A Family Conflict Reaches a Breaking Point

Sheriff Patten revealed that Bradley had recently taken legal steps to have her son removed from the home. She had been in court the day before her remains were found, seeking an eviction order. Jackson allegedly threatened her shortly afterward.

Deputies Praised for Their Work Under Extreme Conditions

The sheriff’s office commended the deputies, investigators, and support personnel who responded that day, noting that each played a critical role in preserving evidence, securing the scene, and piecing together what had happened. Jackson was arrested and charged with murder, mayhem, and tampering with physical evidence. He has waived his preliminary hearing, and the case is now being forwarded to a grand jury. He remains in custody at the Adams County Jail.
